2008 Barossa Valley Shiraz VP

Our 2008 Shiraz VP is a Vintage Port style fortified Shiraz. 2008 provided ideal ripening conditions for creating a fortified Shiraz from the gnarled vines at the Kalleske Kalimna Vineyard in the western Barossa Valley. These low cropping, very mature vines produced black fruit with intense flavours.

Hand picking with traditional hand pumpovers and open fermenters, were used to create this wine. Following gentle basket pressing at around 8 baume, the wine was fortified with clean spirit, and filled into a seasoned French oak hogshead.

Tasting notes

Dark ruby red in colour, a powerful nose displaying fruitcake and dried plums emerges from this wine. The palate is decadent and powerful, flooding the mouth with mulberry, blackberry and chocolate, with hints of liquorice. This cavalcade of flavour and supple ripe tannin texture preceeds a long, long, lingering finish. Whilst excellent drinking now, can be confidently cellared for 30+ years.
